Karen Ann Mason
Karen Ann Mason is a lyric soprano from Asheville, North Carolina. She began her journey into classical voice at the age of 11 as a soloist with the Asheville Choral Society. From there, she began training in classical voice with the renowned mezzo-soprano Simone Vigilante. Mason went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts High School with a concentration in voice. She continued her education at UNCSA in the undergraduate classical voice program as a student of tenor Glenn Siebert.
Mason has attended multiple international vocal programs, most notably the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and the Berlin Opera Academy. She is excited to attend the American Institute of Musical Studies as a member of the Opera Studio this upcoming summer.
Mason’s most notable roles include Countess in the Marriage of Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Lauretta in Gianni Schicci, and Suor Osmina in Suor Angelica. This spring, Mason is performing the role of Gaston in Offenbach’s Monsieur et Madame Denis at UNCSA.
Mason has also been featured as a guest soloist in the Piedmont Wind Symphony’s featured guest artist concert series. She was also a featured performer in the UNCSA School of Drama’s production of Amadeus where she performed a multitude of notable soprano arias in the role of Katerina Cavallieri.
Mason is looking forward to performing in Graz, Austria this summer, earning her bachelors of music in vocal performance from UNCSA in the upcoming year, and auditioning for graduate schools next fall.
